This is an example without using referral Templates.  

• Press the Add Referral button in the Advanced Progress Note screen.  .
• The Patient Referral screen will be opened. 
• Search for the specialty you want in the Specific Provider field. 

• Direct field is not required to be filled when the referral is not going to be send electronically. 
  • Note: The Direct indicates that provider can send the referral electronically to another provider If referral is not going to be sent electronically this field is not required. It is recommended that referral is sent electronically to upload the Meaningful Uses measures.
• Unchek the following options: Attach Summary and Use eReferral / Direct. (This options are supposed to be marked if referral is going to be sent electronically to another provider).

• In the Referral tab fill the following fields: Referral Reason and Conclusion.
  
  

  

  
  
• The referral will be printed with the following information: medications, diagnosis, allergies and vital signs since these are selected.

• Note: Provider must eliminate the check marks of the information that does not want to be displayed in report. 

• Press the Save button to store changes.
• The report will be automatically displayed to be printed by provider. 
  

• To see the referral saved at the moment go to the History tab.
