Denominator

Patients between the ages from 2 to 18 years with a Pharyngitis diagnosis during the measure period and and with an antibiotic ordered 3 days after the visit. 

  • Diagnosis: Only for the condition of:
    • Acute Pharyngitis
      • ICD9: 034.0, 462
      • ICD10: J02.0, J02.9
    • Acute Tonsillitis
      • ICD9:  463
      • ICD10: J03.00, J03.01, J03.80, J03.81, J03.90, J03.91
  • Medications (some): Amoxicillin, Ampicillin, Amoxicot, Augmentin, Biaxin, Bactocill, Azithromycin, Ceftin, Cefprozil, Cleocin Phosphate, Clindamycin Palmitate, Dispermox, Doryx, Marcillin, Floxin, Moxilin, Oxacillin Sodium, Penicillin G Potassium, Periostat, Septra, Sumycin, Suprax, Tetracon, Trimox, Trimpex, Ultracef, Zinacef, Zithromax

 

Numerator

Patients in the denominator group that has a result of a Streptococcus test in a 7 day term starting 3 days before and 3 days after the pharyngitis diagnosis.

What to do in EHRez?

Register an appropriate** diagnosis to patients between 2-18 years in the Problem List screen. with a lab order in the Orders screen and add the result to the Add Results screen and prescribe medications that apply in the New Prescription screen. 

 

Example

17 years old patient with a Streptococcal Sore throat diagnosis (ICD9: 034.0 (ICD10:J02.8))”, with a Streptococcus, group A (CPT = 87880) lab order and registered a positive result to order. Patient was prescribed with Amoxicillin).
